Dog Days

One guy was just walking around with this snake around his neck.

The Billy goat had an unusual hairdo, i thought he was wearing a wig.

One vendor had "fighting" chickens who had to be caged separately because they are so aggressive, but I thought they were beautiful.

Today we went to a big flea market called "dog days" in Ardmore, Tennessee down a long winding road in the middle of nowhere! Of course some of the highlights were the vendors who had livestock for sale.

This old bridge was in Elkton, Tennessee and was next to the new bridge.

This was the first time i ever saw a cotton field.

Jack Daniels, Ku Klux Klan and Pickin'

First stop this beautiful sunny morning was the 2011 Jack Daniels Invitational BBQ in Lynchburg, Tennessee. I loved some of the names of the competitors and the smell was unbeatable.

I can not confirm or deny this story but i was told that the Parade i saw in downtown Pulaski this afternoon was a Ku Klux Klan Parade. I was told today the origins of the Ku Klux Klan was to restore order or law to the south after the civil war and that it wasn't until the 1960's that it got it's negative reputation.  I would like to think that today's demonstration was to celebrate it's origins of creating a lawful safe place to live.

Tonight my moms neighbor gave me a private showing of his warehouse where i got to snoop around throughs aisles of trash and treasures! It was like taking a stroll through time, i saw many things that reminded me of my childhood and others had me wondering what history they held.  He was kind enough to give me this cool old tobacco tin i had my eye on.

Food + Friends = Fun

Today we had some visitors from Springhill as well as another Michigander.  We did a little bit of shopping in downtown Pulaski and then came home for dinner! (Back row: Bernice, Meme, Aurora - Front row: Sandy & Janice)

Pulaski, Tennessee

No trip to Pulaski (or the surrounding area) would be complete without a trip to Sharp Motors. What, you don't stop by the local dealership when traveling out of town? Well i had to meet everyone Meme has come in contact with and since they just bought a truck that meant that i would be visiting Sharp Motors. Actually the building was very old and had some wonderful old gas pumps in it as well as several classic Mustangs so it was worth the visit.

Another stop included the local radio station WKSR where i got to meet Butch Menefee, the afternoon DJ who was kind enough to let Meme pose for a shot in studio.

At this time of year you can find a "Tattie Bogel" in front of many of the business! What is a Tattie Bogel you ask, duh it's Gaelic for Scarecrow, why a small town in Tennessee is using Gaelic terms is beyond me, but the idea was cute and a great photo op.

Lunch today was at Krystal, where i enjoyed a Butter Chicken Sandwhich and some deep fried Cinnamon balls.

Seems everytime i visit i get a stare down from a cow or bull, here's lookin' at you kid.

Surely this rates up there with some of the most unusual sights, we came upon a well maintained lot with several old chevy trucks and this Chevy Planterrrr.... ahh Chevy truck with a tree growing out of the empty engine compartment. If you ask me it is brilliant, now no one can come by and steal it, with the exception of a lumber jack.

Nashville Bound

This was the scene as i looked out getting prepared to board my flight to Nashville, after spending most of the day packing and then a slow wet ride to the airport. Now i do not consider myself a bad flyer, i rather enjoy it, but the first complete sentence out of the pilot's mouth was that we were in for a turbulent ride. So my queasiness began moments after take off when we dipped in both directions as well as a few sudden shifts in altitude. Well i made it but not without a few prayers to 7 lb. 8 oz. Baby Jesus!

Sporgy

Don't get the wrong idea, a "Sporgy" i am told (by my husband) is when several sports are being played on the same day.  In today's case UofM vs. MSU (football), Tigers vs. The Rangers (baseball) and the Red Wings vs. The Wild (hockey).  I am sorry to report that Cliff's teams did not fare well the only winning team was The Red Wings in over time. And as if that was not enough Nascar was on today too, unfortunately Tony Stewart did not win, his driver this week in his pool.

Down by the river, under the bridge.

I always loved it when Chris Farley did his skit on SNL where he talked about living in a van down by the river under the bridge.  Well i did spend a night down by the river under the bridge myself - of course my experience was much better than his, instead of living in a van i spent a night at the Thomas Edison Inn.

Reflecting on a beautiful day!

While driving through the Clem today i was drawn to the beautiful colors and the reflections so i pulled over and took this shot.  This area has gone through some wonderful transformations over the years. I am taking the photo from the area in front of the Gazeebo, a place Crystal and i used to sit and have a picnic.

Rooaaarrrrr!

Even our neighbor's dog Bentley jumps on the Lions Bandwagon but doing his Touchdown dance!  What a night for Detroit sports fans. Unfortunately the Tigers lost to the Rangers tonight.  The Lions did beat the Bears during their first Monday night football game in over a decade!

I promised myself the other day when i drove past this beautiful group of trees with out my camera that the next time i drove by with my camera i would stop off and take a few photos, so that is what i did this afternoon.

Say Cheese!

I remember when i first got my computer, how much fun we had using the PhotoBooth feature where you can tweak your image to alien proportions. Still one of my favorite effects is the Pop Art designed to give you a four part Andy Warholish image.

Spooktacular

Today i worked on making the inside of the house as spooky as the outside by decorating my buffet. One of my favorite pieces is a creepy hand that crawls across the room!

She is her mother's daughter!

My beautiful niece Codi came by today so i could take a few photos at a couple of locations i had scoped out.  The funny thing is when i look through the lens i see hints of her beautiful mother, my sister-in-law.

I am WILD about animal print!

I received a little treat in the mail yesterday from an old friend, she made me a Zebra print cover for my camera strap.  Guess she wanted  me to be fashionable while i take photos. Thanks Shelly i love it.  She recently started selling some of her wares on Artfire, check it out!

I couldn't resist taking a few extra shots with the big lens before i returned it.  I immediately started to suffer from big lens withdrawal as soon as i turned it over.

Is that a big lens or are you just happy to see me?

You know how it is when you are some where and someone or something catches your eye from across the room?  Well i am sure for most women it would be beautiful eyes or bulging .............. biceps, but for me nothing gets me flying across a room to talk to someone faster than a big............... lens!  That's right contrary to popular belief size does matter and let me tell you if i see you wielding a beauty like this it is on like donkey kong.  All jokes aside i want to say thank you to Angel for letting me borrow her "big" lens today.

What is your dream lens?

How cool is my living room wall?

Sunday Drive

When i was younger we often took a Sunday drive, sometimes it was to my Grandma's house other times we would travel down a road with no particular destination, just to see the sights.  This Sunday when i had to meet someone for an item i was selling on Craigslist i was reminded how enjoyable the Sunday drive can be.  I purposely made a few wrong turns and traveled down a dirt road and stopped off the side of the road a few times to soak up a great Sunday afternoon.

Did your family have a Sunday drive ritual?
